Yoga has been enjoying a rise in popularity in the west, despite being misunderstood as just physical postures. This is only one aspect of it.
The true meaning of yoga from the ancient Yoga Sutras is “the complete settling of the activity of the mind.” The literal translation is “unity” which refers to union of the outer aspects of life with the subtle inner levels of life.
International Yoga Day will now be celebrated each year on June 21st in honour of this ancient practice.Endorsed by the UN General Assembly, Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi told delegates in Sept 2014 that “Yoga is not just about exercise, but to discover the sense of Oneness within yourself.”
This understanding of Oneness, Unity, and its location, silent and blissful, deep inside each of us, has been brought to light by TM’s founder Maharishi over 50 years ago.
Transcendental Meditation has been continuously taught in Australia since the 70’s. Over 6 million people practice TM worldwide.
TM is a mental technique that brings deep rest to mind and body, is practiced for 20 minutes twice a day and has been shown by 350 published peer review scientific research papers to markedly improve your physical and mental well being.
Benefits of TM include:
Exceptionally deep rest, reduced stress and anxiety, reduced heart disease, increased energy and efficiency, greater happiness and improved learning ability.
Recent research indicates that compared to Mindfulness TM is many times more beneficial as it allows the mind to effortlessly transcend the thinking layers of the mind, unlike other techniques which involve concentration, contemplation and effort.
Mindfulness came to the West from Buddhism, but in the East more than 3000 Buddhist monks, in 100 monasteries across Asia recently learned the TM technique. They discovered that mindfulness is not an experience one has to try to reach through trying to be mindful of your thoughts or various exercises, but is the natural consequence of the experience of transcending. Through the TM technique, this experience is reached automatically, in a natural way, without effort or concentration.
Imagine the feeling of a child coming home, running into its mother’s arms. The child feels safe, at peace and warm, and all anxiety melts away. That’s what transcending feels like to most people. Coming back home.
Anxiety is often related to deep rooted stresses, stresses that are out of reach of normal therapies, such as relaxation or psychotherapy, which can only work on the surface level of the mind with analysis and intellectual understanding. Transcending allows the mind to settle to its most simple state of inner silence. When the mind settles down to this depth the body automatically follows and gains a profound state of rest, twice as deep as deep sleep. This profound rest dissolves the chemical and physical deposits left in your nervous system by stress. TM has the power to heal even our deepest stresses. Anxiety, sleeplessness and fear disappear as a side-effect of regular transcending, a holistic positive transformation that effects all areas of life because TM changes your nervous system measurably…overcome stress, raise your performance, enhance work life balance with TM.
Imagine coming home after work settling down on the couch and doing 20 mins of effortless, peaceful meditation which provides deeper rest than sleep. Opening your eyes feeling rejuvenated, clear, and looking forward to enjoying your evening with family or friends. Then feeling calm, at peace and relaxed for a good nights sleep.
That’s what transcending feels like to most people.

Transcendental Meditation has changed the way I go about my life. The anxiety that I experienced before has diminished and I feel much more emotionally intelligent. Most of all I am extremely grateful that I was introduced to the technique as it is obviously an amazing tool to have in life. I feel very lucky. Absolutely everyone should do it.
